It is essential to start your daily skin care regimen with three easy steps: cleanse, treat, and moisturize.

Cleansing and moisturizing may be familiar to you, but how do you “treat” your skin?

We’ve compiled the best dermatologist-approved daily skincare regimen for oily, dry, combination or acne-prone skin, which includes the basic steps you need to include in every routine.

Skin Care Routine in the Morning

Cleanser

Any skin care routine should begin with a thorough face wash, which will remove impurities and excess oils that can clog pores and dull skin. Use a gentle cleanser. Using too harsh a cleanser or cleaning too often will damage your skin’s protective layer. You may want to wash your face only at night and rinse it with water in the morning if you have dry or sensitive skin.

Toner

Toner isn’t necessary, but it can be great for refreshing skin, removing residual debris and balancing pH. If you have acne-prone skin, choose a toner containing salicylic acid to stop breakouts. When you have dry or sensitive skin, look for toners (or essences) made without drying alcohol and with soothing ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid.

Serum

By using serums tailored to your skin concerns, you can treat and protect your skin. Antioxidants such as vitamin C can help protect your skin. Vitamin C is suitable for everyone, regardless of age. We get skin damage from the sun and pollutants, which reverses a lot of that damage. Vitamin C serum can help combat hyperpigmentation on darker skin tones.

Eye Cream

Also included in the “treat” category are eye creams. To avoid causing damage to delicate skin, lightly tap on a formula that addresses your eye-area concerns using your weakest finger, such as your ring finger.

Moisturizer

After that, we have heavier formulas like moisturizers that keep skin hydrated and provide a protective barrier. A lighter moisturizer that absorbs quickly and won’t pill under makeup is ideal for daytime use unless your skin is dry.

A thicker formula, such as a cream, will be better for your skin if it is drier. If you’re looking for moisture retention in your skin, look for ceramides or hyaluronic acid.

Sunscreen

Every skin type and age should begin with this step. It might as well not matter what else you do if you don’t wear sunscreen. Even if it is your wedding day and you are busy with your makeup and lipstick, don’t forget the sunscreen! Premature ageing of the skin is mainly caused by the sun. Regardless of your skin colour, you may also get skin cancer. In addition, if you don’t use daily SPF to treat hyperpigmentation, you’re going backwards rather than forwards.

After your morning skincare routine, apply a broad-spectrum face sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Don’t forget your neck and hands, too. Remember that UV rays can penetrate through windows, so it’s essential to protect your skin from the sun, even when you’re indoors.

Skincare Routine at Night

While you’re sleeping, you won’t need SPF, so you should change your skincare routine. As you sleep, your skin regenerates and repairs itself, so it’s best to ensure it’s getting all the nutrients and ingredients it needs. During the day, you will still perform the same steps – cleanse, treat, and moisturize – but the routine is a little different at night.

Cleanser

Makeup and grime from the previous day must be removed first. Remove any cosmetics you need to remove with a separate makeup remover. In tests, cleaners haven’t dissolved makeup, especially on the eyes. As in the morning, wash your face with the same cleanser by starting from the inside and working your way down along the hairline to just underneath your chin.

Toner

Apply toner as you would in the morning if you decide to use one. Toners, since they’re liquids, should be applied before heavier formulations like serums and moisturizers to allow them to be absorbed.

Serum or Treatment

During the night is the perfect time to use products containing alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic acid or retinol, which will slough off dead skin cells and brighten and smooth the texture. Use retinoids and the spot-fading active ingredient hydroquinone alternately if you’re treating hyperpigmentation.

Eye Cream

You can apply a little bit of your face serum or treatment or, if you use an eye cream in the morning, add a few drops. Although you don’t have to use a lot, you’ll see more results if you start training your skin to tolerate more active ingredients around the eyes.

Acne Treatment

You can apply an acne treatment now if you currently have blemishes (or a few). It is much better to treat pimples as they pop up instead of treating them as they pop up. If your skin is clogged, you’ll get acne right next to the spot if you just treat the pimple. As a result of oil building up on your face, you get breakouts, so keep your skincare routine consistent so that you don’t get clogged pores. When using retinoids, let the skin adjust before introducing acne-fighting formulas like salicylic acid.

Moisturizer

In addition to moisturizing your skin at night, you should use active ingredients that counteract moisture loss while you sleep. Moisturizing creates a barrier that seals in natural hydration and counteracts moisture loss. If you use a moisturizer without SPF during the day, it works, or you can try a nighttime formula for anti-ageing benefits.

Routines make people more productive, and when you’re fighting off blemishes, your skin will respond much better if you take time for it every day, rather than just when you have the time. You must take good care of your skin, especially if you suffer from breakouts. Eminence Canada will have the right product for you!
